Symptoms of Angina

STABLE ANGINA

Stable Angina is the most common form of angina. Angina is considered stable if symptoms have remained the same for several months and have a regular pattern.

UNSTABLE ANGINA

Unstable Angina does not follow a pattern which means that symptoms are spiraling out of control. It is a warning sign that a heart attack may soon strike.

PRINZMETAL'S VARIANT ANGINA

Prinzmetal's Angina: Primarily affects women under 50. It is angina which is caused by a sudden spasm and temporary narrowing of the muscle inside the coronary arteries. The causes are unknown but it may be linked to stress or smoking.

MICROVASCULAR ANGINA

Microvascular Angina: This type of angina, sometimes referred to as Cardiac Syndrome X. Some scientists suspect that microvascular angina is a symptom of coronary MVD and may be due to some dysfunction of the tiny arteries near the larger coronary arteries. Pain typically lasts longer than other types of angina, and may also be accompanied by shortness of breath, tiredness and sleep problems.

BLOCKED ARTERIES

Atherosclerosis: The build up of fatty deposits (plaque) in the arteries which causes restriction in blood flow. If the heart does not receive enough blood during exercise it sends out a pain signal (angina pain) to indicate the person should stop activity.
