Uterine fibroids are tumors that grow outside, inside or within the wall of the uterus (womb). Composed of muscle and fibrous tissue these growths can increase in size over time but do not become cancerous. A woman may develop just one fibroid growth, or many. FIBROIDS OF THE BREASTS Fibroids can also occur in a woman's breasts - a condition known as fibrocystic breast disease. These fibroids are fluid-filled cysts. |
Symptoms include breast pain which comes and goes, breasts feel heavy and swollen, they may feel lumpy but the lumps move if you push them, they do not feel stuck or fixed to an area. |
FIBROADENOMA Fibroadenomas are a type of breast fibroid, but instead of being fluid-filled like a cyst, they are composed of tissue. They are a solid benign (non-cancerous) lump of tissue. They can look like breast cancer lumps so need to be biopsied. |
